Feeling drained, jaundiced, negative, depressed? Here’s a really easy powerful way I’ve learned to get myself out of the Downs and the Blahs.
I find a nice quiet place and think of some of the things that make my heart sing. Then I go and do some of them! At least one!!
So what kind of things? Fair warning: there is a long, long list of things that make my heart sing! So I’ll just share a few with you here.
Some things that make my heart sing:
Music
• Going to a Lydians concert; listening to Eddie Cumberbatch sing
• Listening live to the guitar work of John Hussain or Joey Ng Wai; Santana
• Il Volo, Jill Scott, Etta James
• Marvin Gaye and the great back in times love songs; singing along loudly even though I can’t sing well
• Standing in the middle of a steelband and feeling the music vibrate all through my body
• Dancing on a polished wooden floor with a partner who really knows how to dance (so that I can trust him enough to let go my urge to lead and just let my body merge with his and float along to the music – ok, I’m getting carried away here
• Live saxophones; impromptu jazz sessions at Ava’s
Ok, why did you get me started on music? I could go on for three pages on the music that makes my heart sing so let’s stop here for today!
• Sitting on a veranda at Mt. Plaisir looking at the sunset and listening to the waves of the Atlantic crash
• Seeing turtle hatchlings break out of their nest and scramble to the sea
• Gardens and fields with masses of flowers
• My granddaughter
• The shock and absolute bliss of connecting with someone whose soul vibrates with yours
• Seeing someone you have helped progress and find themselves and realise that you have made a positive difference in the world
• Travelling to places with a special vibration. Some very special places for me:
Nepal
Mexico city
Jaipur
The Blue Mountains – Pine Grove and Bellevue
The Mountain Retreat and Learning Centre, North Carolina
You get the idea?
The great thing about having a list of things that make your heart sing is that these things are imprinted in your memory. So even if things change or you are not able to physically experience the things on your list, if you call them up in your memory you still experience the smile. That’s how your memory works!
Another thing – you don’t have to wait for when you need perking up to do something on your list. In fact, I strongly recommend that you do things on your list as often as possible! When you are in the soul smiling vibration you will experience a level of happiness that will well – make you smile!! Never mind what is happening on the outside!
So, what makes YOU smile?
Go make a list right away. Go do something on the list.
