I do not know where I would be without the support of my friends.
I have all kinds of friends. Young friends; old friends; and all ages in between. I have male friends and female friends. This is important to me because each age and gender has a different perspective and this provides balance in my life. I have friends from more than sixty years ago and there are some of more recent vintage. All are precious.
There are the friends I can go on adventures with –
I have some friends who love gallivanting as much as I do. There is so much fun in taking five hours in get to a place that should take two (if you were going straight there) and on the way you laugh; catch up with each other; just be silent and comfortable; stop for home-made ice cream; stop to look at the sea or any interesting scenery; or explore an interesting road.
Friends who love music and dancing –
I love all kinds of music so some of these friends fall into categories – those who love jazz, steelband, classical, and so on. Best of all are those who, like me, not only like all kinds of music but particularly enjoy live music. And if you add to that dancing, that is bliss! I have such fond memories of dancing and singing off key at the top of my voice to a steelband with some friends doing the same!
There are special friends who I can be vulnerable with, share dreams and ideas; who will not judge me.
These are special because I can reveal parts of myself that I wouldn’t usually reveal. And this is so comforting.
I am blessed with friends I can ask for help –
Knowing that they will respond. In the past few years, I have had so much help. I am sometimes brought to tears of gratitude by this. And of course, I will do the same for them.
I almost forgot friends to go on Foodie adventures with!
Ah! The memories here again! I love sharing food. This is a big point of connection for me so people who are willing to go to try different foods with me are fun! How about the Fish Fry at Oistins? Or in St. Lucia? Or stopping in La Fillette to taste home-made sea moss?
Have you ever met someone and your spirit connects with theirs right away? It feels that you have known them forever. You feel you are vibrating at the same energy. These friends are my soul connections. I am so blessed to have some of those who walk with me on my path.
Did you know that there is a lot of research that shows that Strong Social Connections is the #1 predictor of long life and real happiness? This is one important reason to cultivate your friendships.
Because I have had a long period recovering from serious illness and now with being in lockdown because of COVID, I am sometimes asked: Am I lonely sitting in my chair for more than a year and a half? Not at all! I stay in close touch with friends all over the world. The Internet is such a blessing to me.
So, reach out to your friends, especially in these times.
If you are struggling with feelings of isolation, or want to know more about cultivating supportive friendships, reach out to me. I offer a complimentary session to anyone who asks. Great article. We are social beings. We really need each other to survive. This is a timely reminder written in a friendly conversational tone.

Welcome Lilla!
Good morning Lady Cheryl and thank you for thinking of me as one of your dear friends of over five decades. Say hello to Jan for me because she is also one of those who fall into that category and I know you are in touch with her frequently.
You are definitely an essential friend! 🙂
