The thing I love most about my life and the Universe is that the Universe has so much patience with me!
It will keep repeating lessons until I learn.
So here was I, reflecting on how I had missed the lesson by chasing Ignaçu away and feeling very chagrined by my seeming inability to learn.
One day, maybe two weeks or so later, I was cleaning out the living room. I pulled out the tea trolley to clean under it.
And there was Ignaçu stretched out under it, perfectly relaxed!
This time I greeted him with enthusiasm.
“Well hello! I’m so glad you’re back!!”
He obviously took this as an invitation to stay because he then decided to live under my dining room table.
Each day I observed him carefully, still trying to figure out the lesson. I noted how completely, absolutely relaxed he was. I have never seen a creature look so near to dead, while still being alive.
This went on for several days. Then I began to worry.
Although the doors were wide open all day, he didn’t appear to want to go outside. Was he eating or drinking? I didn’t want him to die on me! Years before, there was an iguana that came into my house and died.
So I researched what iguanas eat. I tried all the things suggested. No luck. I began to get frantic.
Eventually, I discovered that the only thing that Ignaçu would eat is ripe Julie mango – which is my absolute favourite mango.
We lived like this for several weeks. He lay totally relaxed, not moving. Not even when I walked or sat right next to him. Even more surprisingly, he did not move when my son came to visit and stood right beside him!
